Ukrainian National Forestry University
03rd – 07th September 2019
The Summer Course is an initiative of the German offices of the Baltic University Programme in Hamburg and Zittau (Germany), in cooperation with the Ukrainian National Forestry University (UNFU), as part of the Baltic University Programme.
It is organized in cooperation with the European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR) and the EU Projects “FORCE – Cities Cooperating for Circular Economy” and “LARS – Learning among Regions about Smart Specialisation”. The summer course is meant to acquaint delegates from various countries about matters related to circular economy for catalysing sustainable development in the Baltic, as well as foster international and multicultural learning.
The course will provide a forum for learning and discussion about the role of ecological, technological, economic and social innovations for sustainable development. It will offer a state-of-the-art overview about possibilities of the transformation from a linear to a circular economy, “Zero Waste” principles, development of innovation networks and governance and business model strategies for circular economy.
Presentations, group discussions and group works will provide learning opportunities for participants, create a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences, and will result in an even stronger BUP network for sustainable development.
Academic sessions supplemented by field visits to companies and initiatives already working with circular economy principles will provide a prospect on the possibilities for environmentally friendly, ethical and socially responsible business practices.
It will also be a timely contribution towards efforts in the internationalisation, networking and cultural interaction among local government officials, practitioners and students from Baltic countries
Students coming from ESSSR and BUP member universities and other universities are welcome to apply for participation in the conference. Selected PhD students may also attend it.
All costs of the event (i.e. food and accommodation) are covered, thus, there is no participation fee for participants from BUP member universities. However, the participants have to cover their own travel expenses. For interested participants from other universities, i.e. non-BUP members, a conference fee of 200 EUR applies.
