The BUP Symposium 2021

Registration for listeners will open in August 2021

The aim

The aim of the Symposium 2021 is to be a platform where the regional educational and research communities can get together and to get to know each other better as colleagues at Participating Universities of The Baltic University Programme. It is an opportunity to disseminate recent research and take part of new knowledge. The symposium is an arena where to start off discussions and collaborations. We are challenging researchers from different disciplines with an interest in the Baltic Sea Region as an empirical field to discuss Sustainable Development in the Baltic Sea Region. We especially welcome presentations of research having an inter-/multi disciplinary approach.

As our programme and region has many touch points with others, for example ESSSR and UniAdrion. We have invited researchers from these networks to present at the BUP Sympoium 2021, giving presenters and listeners the possibility to meet colleagues from other geographical regions.

Symposium practicalities

The date of the BUP symposium 2021 is 19-20 October 2021.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this symposium cannot take place in real life. Instead, we will hold it as a virtual symposium. By doing so we can make it accessible to many more colleagues. To participate in the symposium, prior registration is required. Key-note speakers and research presentations will be organized as webinars. The poster session will be published on our web site, and we will provide possibilities for social interaction.

Scientific committees will evaluate and consider submitted abstracts for oral presentations and posters, and will chose to bring forward the ones that meet the criteria.

Introduction to BUP Themes

Support to young scholars

Thumbs up

This year, we will support young scholars by inviting you to present your research at the online BUP Symposium 19-20 October 2021. The ones of you with accepted abstracts will also be able to submit their full paper to one of the Special Issues that the BUP will be guest editors for. The five most promising papers will be supported by the BUP (BUP pay the publication fee when the paper is accepted by the scientific journal). Welcome to submit, we look forward to your contribution! Use the link presented here on our web page to submit for either an oral presentation or a poster presentation, and send an email to the BUP Director Madeleine Granvik stating your intentions.

This opportunity is an alternative option for us to support young scholars during the Covid-19 pandemic. This year BUP will not announce the BUP Mobility Research Grant aiming to strengthen the cooperation among young researchers (PhD students and Postdoc scholars) in the Baltic Sea Region, in their research on topics relevant for sustainable development.

Submit to present at the BUP Symposium 2021

Submission open until 8 August 2021.
