Integrated Stormwater Management and Ecosystem Services

You are invited to participate in the on-line course "Integrated Stormwater Management and Ecosystem Services" to be held on 01.05.2018-31.07.2018. The course is part of the project "Sustainable Stormwater Management and Ecosystem Services" funded by the Council of Baltic Sea States (CBSS). The partners are Turku University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and Kaunas University of Technology, supported by the Baltic University Programme Research and Publications Office (BUPRaP) and the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP) The course is meant for BSc, MSc and PhD students who are interested in stormwater management, city planning and water-related technologies, as well as other interested persons working in government agencies and industry.

Language: English. The workshops can be partly in local languages (Lithuanian, German, Finnish). Participants who successfully complete the course may get 5 credit points (5CP). It is structured around 3 modules:

a) The first module gives a general introduction into the subject from an EU perspective. National policies and legislation in Lithuania, Germany and Finland are introduced briefly. General planning tools and methods are presented.

b) The second module presents technical solutions and tools for stormwater management, including assessment of runoff and different types of infrastructure.

c) The third module provides tools and practical examples for detailed planning of sustainable stormwater management solutions and ecosystem services. Concrete examples from Finland are presented, along with opinions of local planners and other professionals.

The participants will have to use the knowledge gained from all modules to make a detailed plan for a selected urban area. All modules can also be worked on separately. To get the credit points, multiple-choice tests have to be performed online. If you do not need the credit points, the performance of the tests is not necessary.

The Workshops will be held in each country (Turku 15.05.2018, Hamburg 05.06.2018, Kaunas July) to bring together students, city planners, engineers and researchers who deal with the relevant topics. The workshops will contain presentations, short site visits and discussion.
