New Participating University: Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping
We have the pleasure to welcome a new Participating University to the BUP: Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping. The central office of the university is located in St.Petersburg, Russia. It specialises in the education and training of shipping industry personnel.
Beyond the central office in St.Petersburg, Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping (SUMIS) have several campuses and branches located in maritime as well as inland water areas.
The international perspective is important to Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping. The university has extensive contacts with foreign educational institutions. It takes part in several international scientific and educational activities and is a member of international associations. In addition to all the essential Russian accreditations, Admiral Makarov SUMIS is accredited by many foreign and international organizations.
The university counts 1809 as its founding year, and has since merged with various institutions of higher education. It is named after Stepan Osipovich Makarov, who was a famous vice-admiral of the Russian navy, oceanographer, explorer, shipbuilder, and inventor. Today, the university both has traditions and are following the innovative models of teaching. The university has an outspoken ambition to do its best to provide its students and cadets with everything they need to achieve their professional efficiency and reveal their creative potential.
The university preserves academic educational traditions and develops innovative technologies and teaching methods. Students and cadets are educated through bachelor and master programs as well as specialist programs in the fields of maintenance. There are twelve majors available.
Scientific specalist areas include development of ship intelligent control systems, high voltage marine equipment, exploration of the Northern Sea Route, modeling of ports and approaches to them.

This year, we will support young scholars - PhD students, PhDs that have newly defended their thesis (max 2 years ago) and post doc. fellows - by inviting you to present your research at the BUP Symposium fall 2022 and give you the opportunity to publish a full paper in any of our special issues that BUP is the guest editor of.
Call for application to host a BUP event
This year BUP has an opportunity to give support to colleagues at BUP participating universities that are ready to host and organize a BUP academic event/activity that is of interest and relevance to sustainability and a Baltic Sea Region perspective, and that encourage interdisciplinary co-operations.
Announcing the BUP's Rector's conference 2022
This year the BUP and Uppsala University have the pleasure to welcome the Rectors of our participating universities to the 6th BUP Rectors Conference. This recurrent event is aimed to gather the rectors to discuss issues of strategic importance for the universities: Sustainability, Internationalisation and Quality Assurance.
