Call for Student Ambassadors 2021
2021-01-15
The BUP Coordinating Secretariat calls for students and PhD students at BUP participating Universities, who are interested in becoming Student Ambassadors 2021.
The Baltic University Programme aims to develop its communication and cooperation strategy with each of its 89 participating universities all over the Baltic Sea Region. Until now our primary communication path involved the BUP contact persons or coordinating staff at each Participating University or the National Centra. However, as students and PhD students make up a large part of the BUP’s target group, we now establish a BUP Student Ambassadorship.
This new position functions in addition to the BUP Student Representatives and the Student Parliament. The role of Student Ambassadors will be to, on the one hand, cooperate with these other democratic institutions and alumni students and on the other hand to serve as a contact person between their home university and its students, and the Coordinating Secretariat in Uppsala as well as the National Centra.
The value of cooperation
Cooperating with you as a Student Ambassador is of great value for the BUP. As a local student, you have unique insights about your university; how to best spread information and market BUP, how to reach potential colleagues and fellow students having interest in certain BUP activities, what different needs and challenges the university faces working with sustainability. These are some examples where your local knowledge and perspective is crucial to utilize the full potential of this large-scale regional cooperation in higher education which the BUP is undertaking.
Your tasks as a Student Ambassador
As the Student Ambassador of your home university, you are asked to promote BUP events and activities among your fellow students. You could do so by extending our social media presence with your local channels, distribute leaflets, get in touch with student organizations active at your home university, by being present at university event as BUP representative, or even to give a presentation about BUP at events where your university promotes internationalization, such as different kinds of student mobilities (Erasmus+ and many more).
Another field of activity is the assistance at BUP National Centra. Especially if your country yields the BUP presidency there will be a lot of events organized at universities of your country. But beyond that you can help out with enlarging the BUP network by suggesting local stakeholders that you think the BUP should cooperate with.
Furthermore, there will be possibilities to assist in upcoming projects, e.g. research projects that need to conduct empirical data in field. In some cases, you can even receive payment from the BUP for these tasks.
Overall, this position is designed to be a creative and flexible mission. You are very welcome to implement your own ideas and initiatives. Other Student Ambassadors and the BUP Coordinating Secretariat will support you. There is also a small budget reserved for this purpose.
Your reward
Apart from getting a unique chance to experience working in an international academic organization with 89 participating universities and to take part in events focusing on a sustainable Baltic Sea Region, you will:
- be guaranteed a place at one of our 2021 student events (with your travelling and accommodation costs covered; if the event is moved online due to circumstances, you will be offered a place at more than one event as a substitute)
- get a unique chance to network and, apart from making new (international) friends, meet your future research and/or business partners
- get a chance to show your regional ambitions, and contribute to establish a network of BUP colleagues at your university
- cooperate and have fun with other Ambassadors
- and receive an official certificate and a personal letter of recommendation acknowledging your work for the BUP.
Requirements for this position
In order to apply for the position of the Student Ambassador at your home university, you are required to be a student or PhD student at a BUP participating university, with the intention of maintaining the status as a student/PhD Student for the full year of 2021. Moreover, you must have good English skills and a basic understanding of environmental or sustainability issues. The position is for one semester, with possibilities for pro longing up to one full year.
Application procedure
If you believe that you are the right person to become the new BUP Student Ambassador of your university, please send in a
- Motivation letter (approx. 1 page) and
- Your CV
to Student Representative Mirjam Weituschat.
We need your application before 10 February 2021.
Remark: As a university teacher or coordinating staff, please forward this tendering to students and PhD students that might be interested.
